Front fences come in various materials and designs, giving you plenty of options when building a new barrier. But before you get into specifics, consider what you want the fence to provide. Is its role to be decorative and to define the front yard? Or do you want it to offer security, to keep children and pets on your property and intruders out? Another aspect you may want from a fence is privacy. With these purposes in mind, consider some of the possible designs and materials below.

Picket Fence

If you live in a traditional home or rustic cottage, you could consider a picket fence that consists of a series of vertical slats with carved tops. These fences look cosy and casual, so they're not ideal if you want to create a grand fence for a mansion. Classic picket fences tend to be relatively low, but you can increase their height if you want more privacy and security.

Standard hues include white and pale blue. However, you can give the fence an edgier feel by painting it a matte black, burnt orange, or another hue that will complement your property. The pickets are typically made of timber or PVC.

Brick Fence

Another fence you could opt for is a brick fence. Because they're built from separate bricks, these barriers can be set to create various designs. You could have a low brick front fence with a decorative top that steps up and down. Or your contractors could construct a high brick fence with a running bond pattern. They could then lay the bricks in a contrasting pattern for a top border. Bricks come in shades like red, blue, tan, and multi-tones. If you don't like their appearance, you can render and paint bricks any hue you wish.

Plus, you can combine bricks with other materials. For example, you could set wrought-iron rails between brick pillars for a formal, substantial fence. Brick fencing, thus, can be designed to suit different kinds of homes, and it can look cottagey, grand, or coastal. Plus, it offers privacy and security when built into a high barrier.

Steel Fence

Another kind of fence installation to consider is a steel design. These fences are built from various components that you can mix and match to your taste. You can choose the metal panels in many colours, such as sand, blue and red. And you can combine the panels with posts and caps in the same or contrasting colours. For example, pair beige panels with forest green posts.

You can also add decorative lattice panels to the tops of these fences. Because they use metal panels rather than chunky materials like bricks, steel fences offer privacy while not giving you the sense that you live in a fortress.
